One act of kindness won't change the world, but it may change one person's world.

Oftentimes children living in orphanages are suffering from behavioral and emotional issues that are not addressed. The children in orphanages are often encountered with many struggles in their most formative years of growth. These children may have come from backgrounds where they were exposed to abuse, exploitation, neglect, lack of love and care from parents, etc. As a result, these children are much more vulnerable and susceptible to developing mental health issues. However, certain activities and initiatives can greatly reduce the possibility of children facing mental health issues.

Residents in nursing homes tend to suffer from mental illnesses more than most people are aware of. In fact, we mentioned in our blog, “Mental Health Care in Nursing Homes,” that “a high proportion of nursing home residents have a significant mental disorder, with estimates ranging from 65% to 91%” (Grabowski). Without the right treatment, mental health conditions can escalate even further. It is also proven that simple daily activities can help improve mental health. Though these events/activities will definitely not act as a replacement for getting medical help, they will definitely play their role in bettering the residents’ mental health.

In an effort to ease the conditions of both children and the elderly, the team of Happy2Thrive hopes to help support and fund various activities/events regularly. The funds we gain from this cause will be put into designing engaging activities - dance shows, yoga and meditation, board games, etc. - that will promote a better mental and physical environment for both of these age groups. Though these events/activities will definitely not act as a replacement for getting medical help, they will definitely play their role in bettering the residents’ and childrens’ mental health.
